This site aims to make known the extreme crisis that touareg society is going through by giving voice to those on the inside, usually unheard, rather than outside opinions, already widely aired.
The texts on this site have been translated from the book "Touareg - solitary voices beneath the confiscated horizon' directed by Hélène Claudot-Hawad and Hawad - published in Dec 1996, Ethnies, Paris (Documents 20-21)
in collaboration with "Peuples autochtones et développement" (Indigenous Peoples & Development) and Survival International (45 rue du Faubourg du Temple, 75010 Paris, France).
All the texts gathered in Touareg were translated into French by Hawad et H. Claudot-Hawad, as well as the poems and songs from the book by the same authors : Tourne-tête, le pays déchiqueté, Anthologie des chants et poèmes touaregs de résistance de 1980 à 1995, published in 1996 by Editions L'Harmattan Italia, Turin, in Italian and by Editions Amara, La Bouilladisse, in French.
The translations and design of the site are by Pedro Soler.
The opening illustration is by Hawad as are the navigational stars.
